career paths

First off, I just want to say that I hate when you store something in a ziploc baggie, and then the food takes on that plastic taste. Gross!

I went and visited the Chair of the English Department at the College of Charleston this morning. I came out... unsatisfied. I think my best option right now is to take courses as a non-degree seeking student. Their M.A. program is not for me -- it's completely literature based. He suggested I get a B.A. in English with a concentration in Creative Writing (something new they started offering last year), but because it's a whole new Bachelor's for me.. I have to go through all those other bs courses all over again (math, history, etc). Only a certain amount of my courses from Pitt would transfer. He thought that I would be completely quitting work and just going to school F/T. Ok, while that sounds ideal... that is just not going to happen. I have a mortgage and bills to pay. We discussed working P/T, but the way their classes are scheduled... he said I would be going to school forever if I pursued the B.A. path. He suggested that I meet with the head of the Creative Writing program, and probably take their English courses as a non-degree seeking student. He also suggested that I take a look at USC and see if they offer anything... I don't remember if USC has a regional campus down here or not, but if they do, I am willing to bet it's for some type of engineering/sciences.

-sigh- I was/am disappointed. And I'm not sure if I can take loans out as a non-degree seeking student. I guess the only good thing about meeting with him was that now I know what my options are...
